Does a garden pond require a UV light system?
Answer: It is recommended to install a UV light system with any garden pond. If you wish to add fish to your pond, a UV light is strongly recommended due to fish fecal matter which dramatically increases the growth of bad bacteria and algae. This can be harmful to humans and fatal to your fish life in the pond.
Does the pond need to be drained prior to the winter season?
Answer: No the pond does not need to be drained like a conventional pool. It can be left in its natural state because you may want to use the pond as a skating rink in the winter months. Just disconnect the UV light unit, pump hoses and fittings and also trim back specific pond plants to encourage strong growth in the spring.
